Opt-Out of Email Marketing Lists: The Direct Marketing Association Email Preference Service
The Direct Marketing Association is a trade organization that governs member companies that use direct mail, email, and telephone marketing methods. The D.M.A. offers consumers three services to reduce unwanted personal (not business) solicitations by its member companies via mail, telephone, and e-mail:

The Direct Marketing Association offers an opt-out preference service for removal requests from e-mail marketing lists. Registration of up to three email addresses is free and can only be completed online directly at the D.M.A.'s website: http://www.ims-dm.com/cgi/optoutemps.php
How it Works
D.M.A. will send an e-mail to each e-mail address that you submit in order to confirm the submission. You must reply to each e-mail within thirty days to complete your registration. If you do not reply, the email addresses that were submitted will be deleted from the file.
Registration with the Email Preference Service lasts for five years, after which time you must re-register.
The updated file is distributed to D.M.A. member companies and non-member subscribing companies once every three months, so it may take some time for you to begin to see a noticeable decline in the volume of email solicitations that you receive.
Note: Registration with the D.M.A. Email Preference Service (e-MPS) will not stop all junk or unwanted email. Registration will also not impact emails that are sent to a business email address, or those of a business-to-business nature.
