Stop Unwanted Sexually Oriented Advertising and Mail
The U.S. Postal Service maintains a list of postal patrons who do not wish to receive sexually-oriented advertising (SOA), and also to stop such mailing to household children under the age of 19. Consumers can elect either a Prohibitory Order against a specific company (a copy of the mail piece is required), and/or an Application for Listing to stop all sexually-oriented advertising in general. The companies that send out this type of advertising are frequent sellers of mailing lists.
What are the Risks?
Besides being potentially offensive, the companies that send out this type of advertising are frequent sellers of mailing lists, which can generate even more junk mail for you.
How Can I Stop It?
You can visit your local Post Office and request “PS Form 1500 - Application for Listing and/or Prohibitory Order” - to stop unwanted sexually-oriented advertising.
Note: USPS Form 1500 is included in the FRAUDFacts Download Library (for FRAUDFacts members)
PS Form 1500 can also be obtained online from the USPS website at:
www.usps.com/forms/_pdf/ps1500.pdf
Once the form is completed, it can be returned it to any U.S. Post Office. The U.S. Postal Service will notify the company that is sending the unwanted sexual advertising; and, if also requested, will add your name and address, and also that of any minor children that you specify, to the prohibitive list provided to companies that mail this type of material.
